An introduction to QTLS January 2017

Purpose of the session To give an overview of the QTLS process: What are the benefits of QTLS? What is professional formation? Stages and timescales and how to gain QTLS Eligibility Collecting and collating your evidence Using REfLECT+ Review and moderation process Resources to support you To answer your questions! 3

What are the benefits? QTLS status is recognised in law as having parity to QTS for teaching in schools Career progression: QTLS status demonstrates your commitment, skills and knowledge to employers Valuable CPD enabling you to consolidate your practice and develop new skills and knowledge, demonstrate the impact on your practice and learners Opportunity to develop your digital skills and work collaboratively with colleagues Recognition of your status as a professional teacher or trainer Members with QTLS can use these initials as a designation.

What do members say? “Since notifying the employment agencies of my new status (QTLS), I have already been offered a maths teaching position for September. It is a great feeling when employers are constantly ringing to check my availability; this is proof that being a qualified teacher with QTLS is really important.” Anzoumana Gbane QTLS, Functional Maths Teacher, July 2015

What do members say? “The sense of achievement being known as (J C) QTLS is amazing in addition to my supporter statement and the QTLS moderator who said my application was exceptional!”

What is professional formation? It is a status that is gained after achievement of an initial teacher education qualification. A continuing professional development opportunity enabling you to demonstrate how you are continuing to develop your practice underpinned by the 2014 professional standards A combination of narrative and supporting evidence to highlight your progression An opportunity to critically reflect on your practice in order to make improvements and to demonstrate the impact of the process of professional formation on your practice and your learners An opportunity to show how you are continuing to apply the theory covered in your ITT course to your current practice
