Eclipses When the moon’s shadow hits Earth or Earth’s shadow hits the moon, an eclipse occurs. There are 2 types of eclipses: solar (sun) eclipse & lunar.
 When the moon’s shadow hits the Earth or when the Earth’s shadow hits the moon an eclipse occurs.
Eclipses Solar and Lunar. What is a solar eclipse The moon passes in a direct line between the Sun and the Earth The moon’s shadow blocks out the sun.
Eclipses What is an eclipse? The total or partial obscuring of one celestial body by another. Eclipses occur when the moon’s orbit which is tilted becomes.
Solar and Lunar Eclipses. What is an eclipse? An eclipse occurs any time something passes in front of the Sun, blocking its light. This can be the Earth.
Eclipse of the Moon (lunar eclipse) A lunar eclipse happens when the Earth comes in between the Sun and the Moon. This casts a shadow over the Moon. Lunar.
Eclipses. The Sun and Moon occasionally line up so that we have an eclipse. Revolution of the moon causes eclipses. An eclipse is defined as an astronomical.

SHADOWS AND ECLIPSES HOW ARE SHADOWS FORMED Shadows are formed when an opaque object is placed in the path of light Shadows are formed because light.
Lunar & Solar Eclipses. The moon's orbit around Earth is slightly tilted with respect to the orbit around the sun. As a result, the moon travels above.
Eclipses. Lunar = Moon. A lunar eclipse is when part or all of the moon is covered by the Earth’s shadow. The moon’s orbit is tipped 5 o relative to.
Eclipses. Shadows Note the shadow differences with a small light source vs. a large light source.
Main IdeaDetails Eclipses. Eclipse- When the moon’s shadow hits Earth -or- the Earth’s shadow hits the moon.
 Occur when the moon’s shadow hits Earth or Earth’s shadow hits the moon.  Only occurs when the Earth, moon, and sun are lined up exactly.

Solar Eclipse August 21, 2017

Eclipse When one celestial body passes through the shadow of another The umbra is a central cone of darkness which tapers away from the Earth or Moon the penumbra is an outer cone of partial shadow which diverges instead of tapering.

Lunar Eclipse – Earth in the center

Solar Eclipse – Moon in the center An eclipse of the Sun (or solar eclipse) can only occur at New Moon when the Moon passes between Earth and Sun. Total eclipse of the sun only occurs over a small area Never lasts more than 7 minutes at one location US total eclipse – 2017 One occurs every 18 months

Math is involved!

You MUST wear your solar glasses any time you look toward the sun! DO NOT try to take a picture of the sun – it may damage your phone!!!

Path of total darkness is 70 miles wide. X Path of total darkness is 70 miles wide.

Red is the total eclipse. Watch for the shadow over Fairhope, Alabama.

Next one - 2024 2024 will not be an darker than 2017.

How old will you be in 2052??? TOTAL Solar Eclipse in Fairhope!!!

WEAR THOSE SOLAR GLASSES IF YOU LOOK TOWARD THE SUN!!! Check out the tables of activities, demos and labs. Ice cream and drinks will be sold at the snack bar. Peak darkness will occur at 1:33 pm. Be sure to use your solar glasses and look at the sun. WEAR THOSE SOLAR GLASSES IF YOU LOOK TOWARD THE SUN!!!
