Mark 16:9-20 “Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils. (10) And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept.”

(11) And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not. (12) After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country. (13) And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them.”

(14) Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. (15) And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”

(16) He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. (17) And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; (18) They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”

(19) So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. (20) And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.”

“The Scriptures Teach That Water Baptism To The Penitent Believer Is For (Unto, In Order To) The Remission Of Past Alien Sins.”

“The Scriptures” The Bible, God’s Inspired Word The 39 Books of the Old Testament The 27 Books of the New Testament II Timothy 3:16,17 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (17) That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

“Teach” Imparts information educating us Instructs (& authorizes) by command, example, and implication Cannot decide by emotionalism, family ties, creeds, majority vote, etc. What does God’s Word tell us? We will have to stay out of sick beds, the battlefields, the deserts, and hypothetical cases because, after all, “The Scriptures Teach”…

“Water Baptism” To Dip, plunge, immerse, submerge in the element of water The baptism of the commission of Jesus Christ, Matthew 28:19,20 “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: (20) Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

“Penitent Believer” Specific individuals under consideration Those who believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God (John 8:24; 14:6; Mark 16:16) Those who repent (Luke 13:3; Acts 2:38; 17:30,31)

“For” unto, in order to eis – eiV

“Past, Alien Sins” Sins “outside” Sins committed prior to baptism Sins committed before becoming a Christian, a child of God, a citizen in the kingdom of God I Thessalonians 4:12 “That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.”

What The Question/ Issue Is Not: Whether or not one is saved by faith Whether or not one is saved by the blood of Christ Whether or not one is saved by God’s grace Whether or not one is saved by baptism alone Whether or not one is saved by works of merit Whether or not one is saved by water

What The Question / Issue Is Is water baptism essential to salvation? When or at what point is one saved by faith? When or at what point is the blood of Christ applied to the sinner?

If Water Baptism If Water Baptism Is Essential Is Not Essential Then any accountable individual not baptized is now lost & will be lost forever! Those who teach that it is not essential are false teachers! If Water Baptism Is Not Essential Those who teach it is essential are binding where God has not bound & are false teachers!

If you saw a poster saying "Jesse James wanted for robbery", "for" could mean Jesse is wanted so he can commit a robbery, or is wanted because he has committed a robbery. The later sense is the correct one. So too in this passage, the word "for" signifies an action in the past. Otherwise, it would violate the entire tenor of the NT teaching on salvation by grace and not by works.
