Why be a prefect? Prefects each year undertake various roles and responsibilities around the school, both during the school day and at extra-curricular events. This is a perfect role for students in Year 10 and 11 who want to take on extra responsibility, extend their experience and provide themselves with opportunities which will support their applications to college and university and to work.

Criteria for Prefect Status To be eligible for Prefect status at UHHS School a student will: Meet the expectations of a Senior School student Demonstrate over a sustained period of time, the qualities as outlined in the UHHS Prefect Profile. This demonstration must include BOTH action and reflection. Minimum requirements; ie must have good punctuality, attendance, uniform etc. Leadership demonstrated over a sustained period of time!

The UHHS Prefect Profile Over a sustained period of time, an UHHS School Prefect will demonstrate: Exceptional behavior Upholds and promotes the School rules Meets the expectations of a senior student in areas including uniform, attendance, punctuality, PLP score, classwork, homework Shows integrity in her relationships with staff and students Demonstrates courage in stepping out of his or her comfort zone No stage 6 removals and minimal behavior points. Contributions to the School and wider community Helping out during the school day and at extra curricular events. Leadership performed effectively in different contexts or settings Uses initiative Is decisive Responsibly influences peers and younger students Positive application to Academic Studies Contributes to positive class atmosphere Persistent, resilient and committed

Application Process Students will have two opportunities to apply for Prefectship at UHHS School: First round: Easter Term Y10 Second round: Autumn term in Y11. Students will apply for Prefect status in a similar way to making a job application. Each applicant will: write a cover letter, to Mrs Wood HoY11, explaining how you meet the criteria for Prefect, as outlined in the UHHS Prefect Profile. There are questions you can answer as a guide to help you write your letter on the online unit. It should be no more than 1 page. attend an interview with Mrs Wood and a member of the Senior Leadership Team. The deadline for phase 1 of prefect applications is: Thursday 30th March 2017

Letter of Application for Prefectship Questions that may help you to write your application: Clearly explain why you think you qualify as an UHHS Prefect.   There are many types of leaders and you can demonstrate leadership in a number of ways. Explain what type of leader you are. Discuss how you think you may have developed as a leader in the last 12 months. What have been your greatest achievements? What do you want to develop? What have been your greatest challenges in developing your leadership skills? What have you learned?

The Interview After submitting your application, you will have an interview with Mrs Wood and a member of SLT. The questions asked will be directly related to the UHHS Prefect Profile. You will be notified in writing of the success of your application after all have been processed.

Head Boy & Head Girl Junior Leadership Team On your application you should state if you wish to be considered for the Junior Leadership Team or the position of Head Boy and Head Girl. Remember with these roles comes massive responsibility and expectation.

Next Steps. Prefect applications will be available from room 3 at break and lunch time. You can also download the form from the school website. They must be returned to Mrs. Wood by Thursday 30th march 2017. All prefect documentation will be on the school website and a text will be sent to parents.
