DIPTI Masters in Social Development and and Health Queen Margaret University College, UK Dipti married into a traditional family in Uttar Pradesh. She faced financial and societal constraints with regard to her desire to pursue further studies and work in the field of community development. Her deep social commitment was reflected in the variety of volunteer experience she gathered working with sexually abused children and co-ordinating a club for people suffering from cancer and AIDS Prior to becoming a Ford Fellow Dipti worked in the NGO sector training traditional birth attendants. After completing her degree Dipti has been working in Varanasi as national co-ordinator for Voice Children and Varanasi Weavers in Varanasi.
MANISH MICHAEL Masters in Theory & Practice of Human Rights University of Essex, UK Manish belongs to Allahabad in UP. After completing his graduation he worked with an NGO called Childline that rescued children working as bonded labour in the Badoi carpet industry. He has worked with the NGO CRY as a Manager where he was involved in planning, monitoring and evaluating citizen action groups for child rights, coordinating activities for children with Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) and with other urban governance officials and facilitating campaigns on child rights. He is currently Operations Manager with United Way Bengaluru in Karnataka
SABA KALEEM (Current Fellow) Masters in Public Health School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, Tulane University, USA Saba was born in Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh. She did her Bachelors as well as Masters in Social Work from Aligarh Muslim University in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. Saba areas of interest include poverty and low government expenditure on health and she has worked in Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh with the People’s Action for National Integration (PANI) as a Program Organizer (Health) and with the Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses (J&K) as a Project Coordinator.
SURYA BALI (Current Fellow) Masters in Health Administration College of Public Health and Health Professions, University of Florida, USA Surya belongs to Surapur in Uttar Pradesh. He is the first person in his family to complete his matriculation. He also became the first doctor in his family and in his village. He did his Bachelor of Medicine and of Surgery from Moti Lal Nehru Medical College in Allahabad, UP . Surya has been a Lecturer with M.L.N Medical College, a Senior Resident at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research and a Manager at the State Nutrition Resource Centre . Surya’s deep commitment to providing free and timely medical assistance by even giving access to his personal mobile number stems from having suffered the loss of an immediate family member due to lack of medical attention.
