Authoritative Adj. -coming from a source that calls for obedience or belief A dictionary is an authoritative source for spelling, pronunciation, and definition of words in a language.

Clamor n. -a public outcry; any loud noise and continued noise The clamor of the trumpets was piercing.

Coincide v. --to be in the same in nature, character, or function; to happen at the same time Our political beliefs would coincide with theirs on the issues of term limits and tax reform.

Transmit v. -to send on, pass along, send out In the Old West, local sheriffs would transmit messages by telegraph to the marshal of the territory.

Vanquish v. -to defeat in battle; to overcome a feeling or condition The general’s goal was to vanquish his countries enemies.

Cynical Adj. -to believe the worst in people; mocking or sneering The radio personality’s cynical attitude made it difficult for the station manager to find advertisers.

Harmonious Adj. -able to get along together well; combining different elements that blend pleasingly In the end, Batman and Superman made a harmonious agreement to put their differences aside and defeat their enemy.

Indisposed Adj. -slightly ill; reluctant My sister was indisposed at the moment, puking in the bathroom, so she could not answer the door.

Legacy n. -something handed down from an ancestor Luke Skywalker had to live with the legacy of his father’s murderous rampage on the Jedi.

Patronize V. -to treat someone as inferior while making a show of being kind The cheerleader patronized Tom for reading comic books and acting like a kid; however, Tom pointed out that there are girls who read comic books too and are quite successful writers, artists, or CEO’s of companies who make comic book movies.

Sagacious Adj. -shrewd; wise in a practical way History has shown that students who work in a sagacious way are easy to get along with in groups, follow the directions, help others in their confusion, and offer to lead a group with presentations.
