Part One The first part of the story tells the tale of a gentleman who has retired, being inspired by chivalrous novels and goes on quests that vary from saving a maiden from sorcerers (which in reality were her eecorts) to battling giants (which were windmills)

Part Two The second part of the story is far more serious and concerns betrayal and deception. His death symbolises the death of chivalry at the time this text was written
