WBW in Geneva IBFAN-GIFA organised a ceremony to commemorate two important events: 1. In 1976, 30 years ago, the verdict in the trial of the multinational food company Nestlé, against a group of Swiss students.
WBW in Geneva Pictures removed 2. The adoption of the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes by governments of the World Health Assembly, in May 1981, 25 years ago. Picture removed… Picture removed The celebration, which was attended by 80 guests, highlighted the role of UN agencies such as WHO and UNICEF and the High Commission of Human Rights, who have each in their own way guarded the International Code over the years; and stressed the role of NGOs such as IBFAN and GIFA, without whom the Code would probably have been buried long ago.

Marketing Snapshots Coordinated and vetted by IBFAN ICDC, with technical support from WABA, the Marketing Snapshot project was posted on the WBW website. Called “Look what they are doing” it provided an avenue for WBW celebrants to report how companies were marketing their products in their respective neighbourhood. A total of 124 reports received from 15 countries.
