Today we are going to speak about holidays in our country, in Britain and in the USA. One of them is Mother’s Holiday, or Mother’s Day. Sometimes we call it Women’s Day. We celebrate it on the 8th of March!

My dear, dear Mother I love you very much My dear, dear Mother I love you very much. I congratulate you on the 8th March. With loving kisses I want to say I wish you a happy Women’s Day. You are such a nice friend. It is easy to see Why everyone likes you Especially me.

As far as you know, we have prepared very nice poems for your mothers to congratulate them on Women’s day.

Flowers for Mother Clara Rader I never have a special day To give flowers to my mother; I give them to her every day To show how much I love her. When I sweep the kitchen floor, Or care for baby brother, Run on errands, or make the beds, I’m giving flowers to Mother. It’s lots of fun pretending And to hear my mother say, “Thank you, dear, for all the flowers You’ve given me today”.

More Sacred than All Others G More Sacred than All Others G. Cooper The noblest thoughts we can claim, The noblest words we can frame, Unworthy is to praise the name, More sacred than all other — The blessed name of “Mother”

Only One Mother G. Cooper Hundreds of stars in the pretty sky; Hundreds of shells on the shore together; Hundreds of birds that go singing by; Hundreds of bees in the sunny weather. Hundreds of lambs in the purple clover; Hundreds of butterflies on the lawn, But only one mother the wide world over.

MOTHERING DAY (SUNDAY) In the middle of March there is Mid- Lent Sunday or Mothering Sunday. It is claimed that the name Mothering Sunday came from the ancient custom of visiting the “mother church” at this time. It was the day, when servants and apprentices were given a holiday in order that they might visit their homes. Although Sundays were strictly observed in the old days they were by no means holidays for domestic servants.

But to schoolchildren it always meant a holiday, when they went home to spend the day with their parents. It was customary for young people to carry small gifts with them to their Mothers, bunches of flowers and a special kind of cake being the usual offerings. It was a pleasant custom and it is being revived today in a modified (changed) form.

The cakes, which the young people of the past carried with them when they went to visit their parents were known as Simnel cakes. The word “Simnel” is derived from a Latin word meaning fine bread. Simnel cakes were bought and baked in Mid-Lent throughout the Middle Ages, and it is still possible to buy them today.

Mothering Sunday is not the same as Mother’s Day Mothering Sunday is not the same as Mother’s Day. The latter is an American festival celebrated on the second Sunday in May as an occasion for each person to remember his mother by some act of grateful affection = (love).

Mother’s Day and Father’s Day Traditions and Customs People in the United States honor their parents with two special days: Mother’s Day, on the second Sunday in May, and Father’s Day, on the third Sunday in June. These days are set aside to show love and respect for parents. They raise their children and educate them to be responsible citizens. They give love and care.

These two special days are celebrated in many different ways These two special days are celebrated in many different ways. On Mother’s Day people wear carnations. A red one symbolizes a living mother. A white one shows that the mother is dead. Many people attend religious services to honor parents. It is also a day when people whose parents are dead visit the cemetery.

On these days families get together at home, as well as in restaurants On these days families get together at home, as well as in restaurants. An other tradition is to give cards and gifts. Children make them in school. Many people make their own presents. These are valued more than the ones bought in stores. It is not the value of the gift that is important, but it is “the thought that counts”. Greeting card stores, florists, candy makers, bakeries, telephone companies and other stores do a lot of business during these holidays.
