Presentation transcript:

Anti-Trust Statement In discharging their responsibilities, members of the Technical Standards Board, Councils/Division, and Technical Committees function as individuals and not as agents or representatives of any organization with which they may be associated, except that government employees participate in accordance with governmental regulations. Members are appointed to SAE Technical Committees on the basis of their individual qualifications which enable them to contribute to the work of the Committee.

Patent Disclosure Each SAE Technical Committee or SAE working group member would be required to disclose at specified times during a development process all patents and patent applications that are owned, controlled or licensed by the member, member’s employer or third party and that the member believes may become essential to the draft specification under development. The member would make this disclosure based on the member’s good faith and reasonable inquiry. If SAE International receives a notice that a proposed SAE Technical Report may require the use of an invention claimed in a patent, the respective part of the SAE Technical Standards Board Policy will be followed.

SAE VEHICLE E/E SYSTEMS DIAGNOSTIC COMMITTEE   MISSION THE COMMITTEE SHALL INCREASE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION AND LOWER PRODUCT LIFE CYCLE COSTS BY INVESTIGATING AND RECOMMENDING "STANDARDS" THAT WILL PROMOTE MORE EFFECTIVE DIAGNOSIS OF VEHICLE ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC SYSTEM PROBLEMS. THE RESULTING RECOMMENDED PRACTICES WILL FOCUS ON MODEL YEAR 1992 AND BEYOND. HOWEVER, THEY MAY BE USEFUL FOR PRIOR VEHICLE DIAGNOSIS/REPAIR AND MAY SERVE AS A BASIS FOR ADDITIONAL RECOMMENDED PRACTICES AND PRE-MODEL YEAR 1992 VEHICLES.

SAE VEHICLE E/E SYSTEMS DIAGNOSTIC COMMITTEE "VISION OF THE FUTURE" A STANDARD DIAGNOSTIC CONNECTOR (IN A STANDARD LOCATION) WILL BE IN ALL VEHICLES. PIN ASSIGNMENTS FOR A PORTION OF THE CONNECTOR WILL ALSO BE STANDARDIZED.   ALL VEHICLES WILL IMPLEMENT A SET OF INDUSTRY STANDARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODES THAT CAN BE EXECUTED OVER A STANDARD COMMUNICATION DATA LINE (e.g. SAE J1850, ISO 9141-2*, ISO 15765****). INDUSTRY STANDARD TEST INFORMATION WILL BE ASSOCIATED WITH SOME OF THESE DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODES. A GENERIC OBD "SCAN" TOOL WILL BE ABLE TO UTILIZE A MINIMUM SET OF STANDARDIZED DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODES AND TEST INFORMATION. ***A VEHICLE OR EXTERNAL DIAGNOSTIC DEVICES’S COMPLIANCE WITH SELECTED STANDARDS SHALL BE DEMONSTRABLE A SYSTEM WILL BE IN PLACE THAT WILL ALLOW STANDARD "ELECTRONIC" ACCESS OF ALL E/E DIAGNOSTIC SERVICE INFORMATION. ** A SINGLE SET OF WORLDWIDE VEHICLE DIAGNOSTIC STANDARDS WILL EXIST THROUGH COOPERATION WITH RELATED ISO ACTIVITIES. ** HARMONIZATION OF FUTURE WORLDWIDE "DIAGNOSTIC" LEGISLATION WILL RESULT IN EFFECTIVE WORLDWIDE VEHICLE E/E SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC STANDARDS.
