Smart Phone App for Road Rangers SparR Smart Phone App for Road Rangers

SPARR: SMART PHONE APP FOR ROAD RANGERS THE APP HELPS REDUCE INCIDENT RESPONSE TIME BY CONTINUALLY UPDATING SUNGUIDE SOFTWARE USED AT THE TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT CENTER (TMC) WHILE DISPLAYING THE ROAD RANGERS REAL TIME LOCATION IN THE OPERATORS MAP. THIS REAL TIME DATA ALLOWS THE OPERATOR TO DISPATCH THE ROAD RANGER WITH THE BEST POSITION AND STATUS TO RESPOND TO AN INCIDENT.

Log in Make sure your user name is selected and enter the correct password to gain access to the sparr app.

Log in Once you've entered your credentials, click "LOG IN"

INSIDE THE SPARR APP, YOU'LL NOTICE THE CURRENT STATUS AS "START SHIFT". THAT WILL CHANGE TO "PATROLLING" AND/OR "ASSISTING" AUTOMATICALLY DEPENDING ON YOUR STATUS IN COOPERATION WITH THE APP AND THE TMC. THIS IS WHAT THE APP LOOKS LIKE WITH NO ACTIVE EVENTS DISPATCHED IN THE QUE.

TYPES OF DISPATCHING: TMC DISPATCHED EVENTS SELF DISPATCHED EVENTS OPERATOR DISPATCHES ROAD RANGER BASED ON EVENTS INITIATED FROM CCTV, FHP, FDOT, AND/OR OTHER INTER AGENCY SOURCES. THE TMC OPERATOR WILL NOTIFY THE ROAD RANGER THROUGH AN AUDIBLE/VISUAL INDICATOR FROM THE SPARR APP ON THE SMARTPHONE. THE ROAD RANGER CREATES EVENTS FROM WITHIN THE SMARTPHONE VIA THE SPARR APP. THESE EVENTS ARE COMMON THROUGH PATROLLING A SERVICE AREA. EVENTS CAN RANGE ANYWHERE FROM DISABLED VEHICLES, DEBRIS IN ROADWAY, CRASH, VEHICLE FIRE, ETC.

arriving at an event: Safety first Always wait until you have put the truck in park before entering an event. The inside of your truck is the safest place to input information for the event. If you must be outside to input vehicle info, maintain situational awareness of your surroundings at all times. Don't stand in a pinch point between two vehicles. Get the information you need and return the phone to the holster/pocket as soon as possible.

Self dispatching & TMC dispatching Once within an event, the adding of services and vehicle information is identical for both self dispatched & tmc dispatched events. Let's learn how to create a self dispatched event and how to arrive at a tmc dispatched event.

Creating a self dispatched event: Tap the " CREATE NEW EVENT" icon

Creating an event: In this next screen, you'll have to designate two essential pieces of information: Event type & location

Designating the event type: For this example, we are creating a "disabled vehicle" event. The app defaults the event type to "crash", so be sure to select the correct event type to avoid confusion with the TMC. TAP the event type drop down menu to choose an event type.

Choose the event type: Notice how "CRASH" is chosen by default. Be sure to choose the correct event type for the situation. For this example, we're choosing a "disabled vehicle" event.

Selecting a location: Once you've selected the appropriate event type, you'll then designate a location for the event. TAP the select tab in the "location" portion of the selection.

Selecting the roadway & direction: The large majority of our calls will be located on the highway, but there is an option to choose a different roadway if you scroll down on the road way tab.

Selecting the roadway & direction: Be sure to indicate the correct direction for your event by tapping the direction drop down menu.

Selecting the roadway & direction: In this example, we are choosing eastbound.

Filtering locations: Tap on the "filter locations" tab to expand a drop down menu of nearby locations to choose the closest one near you.

Select a location: Tap the location that best fits your actual location.

Confirming the new event: Once you've confirmed the correct event type and location, tap the "create new event" tab to open the event details tab.

Event details: This central tab will host all the information for your current event. The lane blockage diagram is only edited by the TMC OPERATOR.

Entering services rendered: Any aide you give to motorists or the highway is documented through the "services rendered" tab. Tap it to access a drop down menu of services provided.

Choose all Services rendered at the event: Every event has MOT rendered due to your cones and lights, so choose that first. Then add any other service provided.

Current services list: You can either return to the "services rendered" tab in the event details page to continually add more services like changed tire, debris, minor repairs, and gas or diesel, or you can "add" services preformed at the top of this page here. Some services like gas and diesel require a quantity to be inputted (in gallons) before if can be added.

Adding vehicle information: To enter vehicle information, tap the "vehicles involved" tab on the event details page. No vehicle information is needed for debris events unless an involved vehicle is present.

Inputting vehicle information: Tapping the drop downs for the make, model, color and license plate state will open numerous options for all four categories. You must enter the license plate id manually via key board.

Adding vehicle: Once you've confirmed all the vehicle information, tap the "ADD VEHICLE" icon to include the information into the event. You can add multiple vehicles to your event by repeating the process.

Vehicle information: Once you've added the vehicle information, it will pop up here. This information cannot be edited by the road ranger. Only the TMC OPERATOR can edit event information. You can also add another vehicle here.

TMC DISPATCHED events When you've been dispatched to an event from the tmc, a preview will be displayed within the app to give you information on the type of event, location, bearing, county, and lane blockage.

ARRIVING ON A TMC DISPATCHED EVENT: Tap on the event in the QUE.

Arriving: Once the event is opened, tap on the "arrive" button after you're on scene at the event.

Greyed depart button When you arrive on an event, you cannot depart until you've entered a service rendered.

Responders: When you arrive on scene, your status here changes to arrived. If the TMC is observing the event, they might input other responders like wrecker, FHP, fire department, sheriff, etc.. Their status might say arrived, departed or notified depending on their presence. It's important to communicate with your TMC as to who's on scene, especially with accidents.

Departing: When you have completed your assignment and are ready to leave the scene (literally wrapped up, seatbelt on, in the truck) this is where you would depart from the event. You can depart by tapping the "depart" tab on the event details page.

Resuming patrol: Once you depart your last event, you are automatically set to patrolling on the sparr app. You can enter another event or arrive at another dispatched event from your tmc. You can also receive additional dispatched events while assigned and assisting on one.

Ending your patrol: To end your patrol, press and hold the "pages" soft key until this menu pops up on the bottom of the app.

Ending your patrol: Once menu has popped up on the bottom of the screen select "end patrol" to exit the sparr app.

Ending your patrol: After you end your patrol, it will bring you back to the log on screen ready for you to begin patrol on your next shift.

Sparr app If you enter incorrect information, contact the TMC to correct the proper fields. Make sure you maintain situational awareness at all times. Be safe!
