Strategies for Quitting Use a series of filters over several weeks, each filter reduces more and more tar and nicotine levels so that withdrawal is gradual Nicotine substitutes – nicotine gum, nicotine patch, nicotine nasal spray

Benefits of Quitting Physical fitness increases – breath easier Reduce your risk of heart disease and/or stroke Reduce risk of cancer Save money Eliminates stress related to when and where you can smoke Improve sleep

Tips for Quitting First, figure out when, where, and how much you smoke Write down cost of smoking (dollars) Write down health risks associated with smoking Make a list of reasons as to why you want to quit and put the list somewhere you will see daily Set a date to quit Determine which method or technique you will use to help you stop smoking Find a support system
