Study of the properties of Matter and Energy Physical Science Study of the properties of Matter and Energy

The “stuff’ that everything is made of Matter The “stuff’ that everything is made of

Anything that has mass and takes up space Matter Anything that has mass and takes up space

The ability to make changes in matter Energy The ability to make changes in matter

Some Properties of matter Size Color Texture Shape Smell Taste Weight Flexibility

Qualitative Properties Qual vs quant Qualitative Properties Describe “qualities” such as color, shape or other descriptive terms Quantitative Properties Use measurements of properties

Using Measuring Tools

Reading the numbers Look at the numbers

Count the spaces between numbers Reading the numbers Count the spaces between numbers

Reading the numbers How can I go from 10

Reading the numbers To 20 in 5 spaces?

Reading the numbers Mathematically, I have to go from 10 to 20 in 5 spaces. Here’s a little formula that helps: Difference between numbers Number of spaces

Difference between numbers Reading the numbers Difference between numbers Number of spaces 20 – 10 = 10 5 spaces 10 5 = = 2

This means that each line is worth 2 Reading the numbers 20 – 10 = 10 5 spaces 10 5 = = 2 This means that each line is worth 2 Let’s see if it works.

Reading the numbers It worked!!! 18 16 14 12 10
