The SHAC has the 2016-17 school year to update our policy to the new standards, seek board approval, and create a plan to implement the changes. Discussion of SHAC event. Possible Fun Run.

December 1 Mrs. Sanchez – Child Nutrition Report Birthday Policy-We currently allow homemade and store bought items for birthdays and class parties. Meridian ISD Legal Wellness Policy was reviewed. Meridian ISD Local Wellness Policy was developed by the SHAC. SHAC Chairperson will take to be approved by the school board. The SHAC did not have formal Bylaws. Formal bylaws were developed and will be taken to the school board for approval. Nurses Report-Mrs. Dirkse reported on the Lions Club Vision Screeners. This enabled younger students and students with special needs to receive more accurate vision screenings. Fun Run brainstorm – considering March 9th in conjunction with the MES and MHS Open Houses and school carnivals OR just have booths at the carnival and possibly do Fun Run at a later time. Booth ideas-bike blender, 5th graders Grow into Health, Drunk Driving Simulator, Blood pressure

January 18 Since last meeting the Proposed Bylaws and Proposed Wellness Policy (Local) have been typed in the correct format and are awaiting approval from the school board at their January meeting. The SHAC committee began work on the Proposed Wellness PLAN (ie how to implement the policy.) Each area has goals, objectives, and action items. The SHAC has 2 more sections to complete and plan to do this at the next meeting. Spring activity was discussed and tabled due to low member turn out. It will be discussed at the next meeting.
