Grow by yourself Grow by information Grow by Internet Presented by: Prof. Dr. Mana Prasad Wagley

Higher Education: Global scenario Private commercial sector and university Cultural shift in higher education New research, new pedagogy, and new funding modality Resultant opportunities to the education leaders Potential threat to HEI

Current era The era of fundamental research….almost gone Focus on product-based research How Microsoft grew so fast?….Research, Research, Research… Companies today have R &D cell… why? Action research…more important than laboratory research today

Research Today Research today is not a matter of science and engineering alone It is the demand of all disciplines Large industrial labs are virtually gone Requires interfacing between/among disciplines The gap is there and higher education should fill this

IQ, EQ and CQ Unfortunately higher education focus much on independent discipline Less research Certificates based on IQ, forgetting EQ and CQ We are IQ based products just like bricks out of brick-kilns We know facts but do not know how to process The gap is rampant in working places

The Gap The industry asks one thing as knowledge and skill We have certificates to sell “a limited knowledge framework” Distinction, merit, pass or higher grading Transfer of knowledge, newer skills, and innovative ideas nothing See ads everyday, rush to submit CVs, no call…depressed If some company call…we are criticized for our capacity to meet their needs

Gap Where is the gap? Institutions, people, individual students Curriculum, pedagogy, evaluation Growing knowledge Knowledge economy ICT

Capability of Our Graduates Know the textbook they have studies Textbook literate Not beyond the textbook box No innovative ideas No market Unemployed or under employed Mediocre living

The world scenario Academic certificates does not guarantee jobs There is a gap between your knowledge and market needs Your career choice should lead to your professional development Professional skills added benefit

Want to become a leader of any company tomorrow? Bridge your knowledge and skill to cross the river Burn yourself as SUN if you wish to be the source of energy for all Bridges and ladders, horizontal & vertical knowledge Bridges help you to cross the difficulties before other one comes Ladders help you to climb to a position like climbing a mountain and reaching the top Both are not easy, but essential

Career path Goal?...stepping stone??... Money or career?? Money: a dissatisfied and limited happiness Career: a sustainable skillful future Choice is yours

Europe 70 percent students go for TVET Industry/company educate them Train them as interns Make them efficient Recruit them Make them successful leaders for future companies

Our country Less than one percent go for skills All go after college and universities Collect certificates Denied jobs Graduate fate: Go to gulf countries or Korea for manual work

Your knowledge You have the knowledge of the discipline you were in You were taught the theories You remain unaware of the growing market needs You are disadvantaged today

Your potential You have the potential: You can do it You are the future You can lead the future Fill the knowledge gap Bridge yourself with the company New professional skills = the gateway for knowledge economy

Digital age Your mobile is the gateway to the world of knowledge: update yourself; refresh your memory Learn, unlearn and relearn: ubiquitous learning You are independent and unique in you Nobody helps you You have to help yourself Long way to go your life Make yourself competent in time

Look at these great minds Bill Gates: Microsoft Mark Zuckerberg: Facebook Steve Jobs: Apple Computers (ipad, ipod, imac revolution) Larry Page and Sergey Brin: Founders of Google Jan Kaum: Founder of mobile messaging App (WhatsApp): sold the App in 19 billion dollars to Facebook in 2014

Focus 80/20 Eighty percent of your results come from 20 percent of your efforts Focus yourself seriously to your goal Brighten your future Professionalism is the key to success

Thank You for listening Any questions???
