Testimony of SEA Teacher SEAMEO Batch 3 - 2016 Tufia and Sita Students of Islamic University of Indonesia

Feedback for Thailand Program

Some Challenges – Thai Program The staff who picked up in the airport cannot speak English There was lack of communication between the university and the participants of SEA Teacher so sometimes students did not know what to do in the free time and there were some miscommunication about the schedule There was no cooking facilities such as stove in the dormitory. Students got difficulty to find halal food near campus. The location of the school is far from the dormitory

Solutions Universities at least send one person who can speak English to pick up in the airport Universities may provide a complete one month schedule to avoid confusion about the schedule University may provide at least one small stove for the students in the dormitory The placement of the SEA teacher should be close from the dormitory

Involve students from English Department to be student buddies. Recommendation Involve students from English Department to be student buddies. To be efficient in time, money and energy, the school should be close to the dormitory

Feedback for Philippines’s Program Sita Isna

Problems There communication barriers because many some students cannot speak English Some students did not get the suitable subjects to teach The internet facility is limited in some institutions (slow internet) Some students did not get enough attention and supervision The distance between school and dormitory is far

Solutions Students can use google translate and body languages to communicate with students who cannot speak English well Student teachers need consistent supervision from the supervisor and mentor Students should keep communicating with teachers to ask for information Students should leave the dormitory earlier to go to school

Recommendation School can delegate students who can speak English to help School may place the student teacher to teach subject according to the major in the origin university Internet facilities (wifi) should be enough to support the students to find information and to prepare the class and doing assignment (making blog, etc.) School should provide a friendly and attentive teacher that can supervise the students well The dormitory should be close from the school
