Self – efficacy Self - confidence What is it? …….Definition? A person’s belief in their ability to achieve success. The opposite of cognitive anxiety! (negative thoughts and worries). Where have we heard this before? Stress / anxiety….our perceived ability to cope with the demands of a situation. Self efficacy definition Situation-specific self-confidence.

Easy way to remember this..? Belief Ability Succeed BAS and fill in the blanks.

Factors affecting self -efficacy Performance accomplishments Previous successes at the task. Vicarious experiences Watching others of a similar standard successfully perform a skill. Verbal Persuasion Coaches help build self efficacy/positive self talk. Emotional Arousal Awareness of such natural consequences as increased HR.
