Three Categories Legal- Those which we can obtain in our everyday life with nothing to stop us if we are 18+ years old. Prescription- A doctor must give us a prescription to obtain. The prescription will also include how much and how often you are allowed to have the particular drug. Illicit- Those drugs that are considered illegal at all times and it is a crime to either possess and/or take.

Cannabis Cannabis is a depressant drug, which means it slows down messages travelling between your brain and body. When large doses of cannabis are taken, it may also produce hallucinogenic effects. The main active chemical in cannabis is THC (delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol). Find three short term effects on the body: Find Three long term effects on the body:

Ecstasy Ecstasy is a stimulant drug, which means it speeds up the messages travelling between the brain and body. Ecstasy contains the drug MDMA. However, many pills sold as ecstasy only have a small amount of MDMA or none at all. Other drugs and ‘fillers’ like household cleaning products are often used instead. This makes it hard to know what reactions to expect after taking ecstasy or how bad the side effects will be. Find three short term effects on the body: Find Three long term effects on the body:

Amphetamines Amphetamines belong to a group of drugs called stimulants. Amphetamines speed up the messages going between the brain and the body. Some types of amphetamines are legally prescribed by doctors to treat conditions such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy (where a person has an uncontrollable urge to sleep). Some people use amphetamines illegally to become intoxicated. Amphetamines are sometimes produced in backyard laboratories and mixed with other substances that can have unpleasant or harmful effects. Common names for amphetamines are speed, fast, up, uppers, louee, goey and whiz. Find three short term effects on the body: Find Three long term effects on the body:

Ice Ice is a stimulant drug, which means it speeds up the messages travelling between the brain and the body. It is a type of methamphetamine, which is generally stronger, more addictive and has more harmful side effects than the powder form known as speed.   Ice usually comes as a white or brownish crystal-like powder, with a strong smell and bitter taste. It can also come in the form of sheets of clear crystals. Find three short term effects on the body: Find Three long term effects on the body:

What is harm Minimisation? When we talk about minimising the harm, we are really referring to ways in which we can lower the risk or consequences of any given action. We are faced with risks every day, some have small consequences others larger ones. What decisions can we make to minimise the consequences of those actions. Is the best decision not to go through with a situation or to change the way which we are approaching the situation?
