Jim Nardi, Middle linebacker for the Vulcans, intercepts a pass Jim Nardi, Middle linebacker for the Vulcans, intercepts a pass. But then instead of running, he freezes. He sees his opponents coming at him. Then he throws the ball away in fear of getting tackled

All his teammates rag on him about dropping the pass, but one person does not. His brother and coach Doug, just casually says,” Nice try Jim. You’ll get it next time.’’ Jim wondered why Doug was so nice to him. He got no advice, or any stories to console him. There is a story, alright……………………………………………………………

One day, when his friend Chucky comes over, a fire starts One day, when his friend Chucky comes over, a fire starts. Jim protects Chucky, but in the process burns his hand. Luckily Jim is alright, but he will have to miss his game on Saturday. Jim is bummed out.

One day after school, Jim’s friend Bucky invites him to his house One day after school, Jim’s friend Bucky invites him to his house. He claims it is ur gent. He takes him up to his room and shows him a newspaper about Doug. It states that Doug could be a good player but he is too scared of getting tac- kled. Jim now understood why Doug was so easy on him.

After recuperating, Jim is ready for his game on Saturday After recuperating, Jim is ready for his game on Saturday. The Vulcans are on defense first. Jim intercepts a pass, but he fumbles and it is returned for a touchdown. Once again Jim is teased, but he does’nt care. He has a job to do. Later in the game, the opposing team is on offense. The quarterback throws a pass right into Jim’s waiting arms. He runs and runs and scores. His teammates celebrate and apologize for their behavior. They don’t hold a candle to Doug. Doug is the proudest.

Jim Nardi is about 11 years old Jim Nardi is about 11 years old. Among his friends are Chucky Gorman and Bucky Hayes. He is determined, kind, and a bit sensitive. He loves football and model car racing, especially with Chucky. He is the protagonist of this book.

Doug Nardi is a 22 year old and Jim’s football coach Doug Nardi is a 22 year old and Jim’s football coach. He was once a top prospect for college football, but he was too afraid of being tackled, so he did’nt play college football. He loves football just like Jim, and is also very nice.
