Session 13 - Objectives Define the following terms associated with emergency shutdown systems, interlocks and alarms. Start-up permissives high alarm high high alarm/shutdown low alarm low low alarm/shutdown Interlock emergency shutdown (ESD) Given a drawing, picture, or actual device, identify and describe basic shutdown devices. Recall the use of Programmable Logic Controllers in ESD systems. Given a PFD and/or P&ID and a legend, locate and identify emergency shutdown devices. Given a basic description of a process and a P&ID of its ESD system, describe what a specific ESD is designed to protect. Slide 2 Instrumentation 2 – Session 13
