Lecture Objectives Understand how the content of this module will fit into the big picture of personal training Set expectations for this module Describe the Practical Final Test-out process

Module Overview In order to successfully complete a module, students must: Achieve at least a 70% overall grade for that module Pass the module’s final written exam (70%) Pass the module’s practical final (70%) Complete / submit ALL assignments for that module

Meet Attendance Requirements Total hours that can be missed per MODULE: Lecture: 15 hours Practical: 8 hours If a student misses more than the hours mentioned above, without making up any time, that student will have to repeat that module. Total hours that can be missed for the entire COURSE: Lecture: 60 hours Practical: 30 hours If a student misses more than the hours mentioned above without making up any time, that student will NOT be eligible for graduation.

Resistance Training Modalities Module: Learning Objectives To define and describe the safe and effective use of selected modalities, or exercise methods WHY we study different modalities and HOW these can be incorporated into a training program for a variety of clients Advantages and disadvantages of numerous modalities General strategies for communicating with clients Muscle practical content

Intro to Resistance Training Modalities There are many types of strength training equipment that may be used to stimulate muscle development The most important factor for increasing muscular strength is progressive resistance that is systematically applied through appropriate training equipment

Intro to Resistance Training Modalities It’s crucial that personal trainers understand that for each exercise, there is a client / situation for whom it is appropriate, and a client / situation for whom it is not Avoid blanket statements like “This exercise is ideal for EVERYONE” or “This exercise is awful for EVERYONE”.

Practical Final Exam What to Expect on Practical Final Test Day: Your instructor will pair you and your partner up for a workout You will train each other until called upon (the time spent doing this will vary depending on class numbers) Students will be given different versions of the practical final Specifically, one student will be tested on 4 of the eight modalities covered.
