Create a Scribblebot! You have: plastic beaker, tape, pens, battery holder, batteries, DC motor, off centre cam and cam shaft… and anything else I decided to throw in. You need to create a Scribblebot! Tips Attach the battery pack to the DC motor by wrapping the wire through and around the holders on the motor. Make sure you can take one off easily, as you have no other switch. Put the offcentre cam on the camshaft to attach it to the motor. Think about which hole to use! Make the weight high up and off centre for maximum wobble/scribble. Make sure the bot stays on the paper, we don’t want to draw on anything else!

Martian Command Science Team Martian Robot You are a robot on Mars. Your onboard computer has partially failed but you still have important work to do – you just can’t remember what! Your team of scientists from Earth will radio instructions to you, one at a time. Step forward only one box at once. Turn only as directed. You can only pick up and put down directly in front of you. Follow the instructions carefully and precisely, do not anticipate. Return the instructions cards after use. You are controlling a robot on Mars. Unfortunately its onboard computer has a corrupted memory. It can take only one instruction at a time. You need to tell the robot to take a red Martian rock from the sample area and put it in the sample analysis chamber, then return to its docking point facing the same way as it started. This is a relay race, but you might want to consider the order of your instructions to do as few runs as possible. You may only start running when told. Make sure you collect the instructions cards back or you may run out. Sit down when the task is complete. Did you know? It takes 182 seconds for a radio signal to reach Mars from Earth. Did you know? It takes 182 seconds for a radio signal to reach Mars from Earth.

Marble Run You are a sub-team of engineers, part of several teams working together to make a large scale marble run. This is a collaboration, not a competition. Between you, you need to get the ball from one end of the room to the other in a fun and perhaps roundabout way. Your team needs to build a section of the marble run. You need to work with the previous and next groups to figure out how to connect your components together. You may exchange ideas, building components, equipment and even team members between groups. You should be connected together to the previous and next parts by 20:40. Start connecting by 20:30. Don’t forget to test your run and the connections! Your team is focussing on: a bridge / making some noise / a drop / a step up / a chicane / the beginning / the grand finale
