Draft introductions A few thoughts …

The opening sentence: First impressions Electromyography (EMG) captures the electrical activity that occurs in muscles during or at the onset of muscle contraction, producing comprehensive information about activity of muscles. In athletes there has always been a lot of research into such things as training methods and nutrition, however there is very little known about how important the rest, recovery and sleep factors are to an athletes performance. Exercise-associated hyponatremia (EAH) is a serious problem in marathon runners and endurance athletes. The single leg squat (SLS) is a valid and reliable measure of lower limb abnormalities in subjects with patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFP)(12), the most common cause of knee pain.

Using three sentences, when one would do the job? Field hockey is a sport that has grown and progressed over the years. Previously it was played on natural grass or concrete pitches. Nowadays the vast majority of field hockey across all levels is played on artificial astroturf.

Repetition Despite a number of studies that detail the effectiveness of the deadlift, there are no reviews that compile muscle activation when performing the lift. The aim of this review is to identify the muscle activation during the deadlift. This will be done to compile all available literature on the muscle activation associated with the deadlift and review their findings.

Linking sentences together Osteoarthritis is a joint disorder of high prevalence, a common complaint particularly among the elderly, where there is a reduction in mobility and functionality (1). The hip is one of the most commonly affected sites. /// The association between elite, professional sports and development of early OA has been established (2).

Too tentative in occupying the niche? … Although this emerging collection of work provides important insight into ballet and contemporary dance, it is difficult to extract the principal messages from the eclectic mix of research. The purpose of this systematic literature review is to identify the relevant studies of EMG-based research of ballet and contemporary dancers and to summarize the results in order to develop a better understanding of the current literature. …
