Day 2 Bell Ringer #2 Scenario Write 3 paragraphs (5 sentences in each) in response to this situation. You have just passed a car on the highway. You had to break the speed limit to do so, and as you pass, you notice that the driver was asleep. Also, a cop is pulling up behind you, so you think it may be because of your speed. What are your actions now? Give your story.

Changing Lanes DMVM - page 26 To change lanes, always check blind-spots! Always use your signal to communicate your intention to other drivers!!! Lane Positions might also indicate where you are going, and may indicate where another driver is planning to go.

Intersections

Entering an Intersection DMVM - page 22 Check from left to right Always look to both sides to make sure it’s clear (animals, pedestrians, cars, etc.) Check surroundings - intersection, crosswalks, shopping centers, construction areas, and playgrounds. What are the dangers? Look to left first since those vehicles are closest to you. Look to the right, then back to left before you drive through.

Intersections Controlled by Traffic Signals (Copy This) Check for the following Oncoming vehicles making a left turn Pedestrians and cyclists in crosswalk Cross Traffic Count to three before moving Why? Make sure there is space available before moving into the intersection for a left turn.

Intersections Controlled by a Yield Sign (copy this) Important to judge the distance/speed of approaching traffic. Make sure there is ample space so that you may join or cross traffic safely

Backing DMVM - page 27 Common mistake is failing to look both ways behind you. Mirrors don’t give full view Turn body and head Back-up slowly and check for pedestrians and approaching traffic

Backing and Turning Copy this slide (She is turning to the left) The rear of the vehicle moves in the direction that you turn the steering wheel, while the front swings in the opposite direction. If you are backing left or right, keep both hands on the steering wheel. Maximize your ability to see by turning your head and shoulders in the directions you want to move. Look both ways before driving. Always back slowly, with repeated glances to the front. (She is turning to the left)

Visibility DMVM - page 27 Dry road, good tires and brakes - 265 ft. for a passenger vehicle to stop at 55 MPH. Adjust speed to visibility issues - hills, curves, intersections, weather, night/day, etc.

Visibility DMVM - page 27 Headlights only let you see about 350 feet ahead (normal conditions) Fog, rain, snow, etc. If you cannot see more than 100 ft. ahead, you can’t drive safely at any speed. Get off roadway until weather breaks.

BGE Blind Spot/Glare Elimination Do Not Copy (Demonstrate) To adjust the driver’s side mirror, place head against the window, adjust mirror to see along side of car. To adjust passenger side, move body to the middle of the front (in front of rear view), adjust mirror to see down side of car.
