Muscles of the upper limbs Daniela Quintana Period 5 Dec 13, 2016 Muscles of the upper limbs

Muscles of the upper limbs Biceps Brachii Brachialis Brachioradialis Tricpes brachii

Biceps brachii Biceps Brachii means “two-headed muscle of the arm” Origin (proximal attachment) Long head: supraglenoid tubercle of the scapula Short head: coracoid process of the scapula Insertion (distal attachment) Radial tuberosity Bicipetal aponeurosis to the fascia on the medial side of the forearm Actions Flex the arms (weakly) at the shoulder

biCEPS BRACHII

Brachialis Brachialis derives from the Latin term brachium which means arm Origin (proximal attachment) Anterior, distal half of the humerus Insertion (distal attachment) Coronoid process and tuberosity of ulna Actions Flex the forearm at the elbow

bRACHIALIS

BRACHIORADIALIS Brachioradialis derives from the Greek word brachion, arm Origin (proximal attachment) Lateral supracondylar ridge of the humerus Insertion (distal attachment) Styloid process of the radius Actions Flex the forearm at the elbow

bRACHIORDIALIS

Triceps brachii Triceps Brachii means “three-headed muscle of the arm” because it consist of the long, medial and lateral heads. Origin (proximal attachment) Infraglenoid tubercle of the scapula Insertion (distal attachment) Posterior olecranon process of the ulna Action Extends the forearm at the elbow

TRICEPS BRACHII

QUIZ TIME! muscles OF THE UPPER LIMBS

QUESTION 1 The muscles of the upper limbs include which of the following? Ulna, Radius, and Humerus Pectineus, Adductor longus, and Gracilis Femur, Fibia, Tibula Biceps Brachii, Brachialis, Brachioradialis

Question 2 What action does the triceps brachii perform? Extends the forearm at the elbow Flexes the forearm at the elbow Flexes the arm at the shoulder Extends the thumb

Question 3 What is the insertion of the brachialis? Styloid process of the radius Radial tuberosity Coronoid process and tuberosity of the ulna Intertubercular groove of humerus
