What is SoBRA? The Society of Brownfield Risk Assessment (SoBRA) was established in 2009 to support professionals working in land contamination risk assessment Not for profit and run by volunteers Summary of objectives: Promote good practice in practical application of risk assessment Form relationship with other relevant organisations Disseminate knowledge Assist in and co-ordinate future guidance and research Communicate with us via linked in and twitter @sobra15138564 It is a learned society for individuals, with membership drawn from the private, public, voluntary and academic sectors. Its goals are to improve technical knowledge in risk-based decision-making related to land contamination applications and to enhance the professional status and profile of practitioners.

Your chance to make a difference! participate in sub-groups who work on areas of research relevant to industry, for example asbestos in soil, groundwater GAC for vapour intrusion and acute GAC Improve your own technical knowledge in risk-based decision-making related to land contamination by attending events and access to our publications External recognition of your ability through our accreditation scheme Recent workshops - Newcastle focusing on uncertainty in health risk assessment and Bristol on ‘risk assessment to support redevelopment of historic landfills’. Bursary and scholarships for research relevant to risk assessment 1) one thing I like about sobra is that it gives us an opportunity to meet like-minded/other risk assessors in a friendly environment. Who understand what we are each going through with other non risk assessor professionals. And sobra means we can do it without being on opposite sides of the table picking at each other's work.   2) the subgroups are a way to use our brains laterally and have opportunities to learn from others and challenge in a neutral environment.  3) it's open to anyone who wants to contribute. We want to get a balance of experienced people in the subgroups and they are a chance for them to develop outside their company management structure (if groups are managed well)
