Panel A shows examples for the prosody condition (‘You often read books at night’ spoken in neutral, controlling, or autonomy-supportive prosody), while Panel B shows examples for the speech condition (‘You often read books at night’ spoken in neutral, ‘You better do it my way’ spoken in controlling, and ‘You may do this if you choose’ spoken in autonomy-supportive prosody). Spectrograms show visible pitch contours and were created with Praat (Boersma and Weenink, 2013).
