EQ Cleantech Finance and Tech Summit Pranav R Mehta Chairman, National Solar Energy Federation of India & Co – Chairman, Global Solar Council Juhu Marriott Hotel 22 February, 2017

The United Nations General Assembly unanimously declared the decade 2014‑2024 as the Decade of Sustainable Energy for All, underscoring the importance of energy issues for sustainable development and for the elaboration of the post-2015 development agenda as enshrined in the Paris accord during the UN COP 21 Climate Change event.

Global Climate Goals Limiting average Global Warming to below 1.5 degrees C. Solar Energy achieving 10 Percent share of global power generation by 2030 India has pledged to increase RE proportion to 40 % by 2030 at Paris COP 21 India’s Solar target is 100 GW by 2022

Renewable Energy Overview It is clear that the mankind is at the cusp of Energy Evolution from the Fossil Fuel Era to the new era of Renewable and Clean Energy – Energy Transition. Old inefficient ways are giving way to the new more efficient and smart ways for energy.

India’s Solar Target 100 GW target by 2022 Consisting of 60 GW On Grid and 40 GW Rooftop and Off Grid

Country wise solar capacities 10,000 MW India Target 100,000 MW

Solar is Disruptive Technology

There is no dearth of Finance for Good Solar Projects

Solar Energy must move from Class to Mass

Solar Rooftop both a Game Changer and a large Challenge It is beyond any reasonable doubt that Rooftop will be a Game Changer As much as it is a Game Changer, it is a large challenge requiring concerted cooperative efforts by all concerned agencies

Main Challenges in Rooftop Implementation Lack of AWARENESS DISCOM Cooperation, Education and Training Availability of Net Meters Complex approval procedures Availability of Finance at affordable rates Subsidy Disbursement Delays Prompt and Efficient After sales service by MNRE and GEDA Channel Partners

State-wise percentage of sanctioned load allowed for Rooftop Installation STATES Maximum percentage of sanctioned load Maximum allowed capacity(in MW) Minimum capacity (in KW) Allowed cumulative capacity at DT Delhi NA 1 20% Uttar Pradesh 100% 15% Chhattisgarh 50   Jharkhand Punjab 80% 30% J&K 50% Assam 67% Bihar Haryana 105% Maharashtra 40%

State-wise percentage of sanctioned load allowed for Rooftop Installation STATES Maximum percentage of sanctioned load Maximum allowed capacity(in MW) Minimum capacity (in KW) Allowed cumulative capacity at DT Himachal Pradesh 30% NA Goa and UTs 100% 1 Odisha   Rajasthan 80% Kerala Manipur (cap on only energy) 0.5 Tamil Nadu (cap on only energy) Meghalaya 15% Madhya Pradesh Gujarat 50%

Innovations to Achieve 40 GW - Some Good Examples GEDA has partnered with NSEFI for spreading Rooftop Awareness in 6 different cities Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surat, Anand, Vadodara – 31 MNRE and GEDA Channel partners and solar manufacturers to join under one umbrella In each of these cities apart from Municipal Commissioner, Dist. Collector, local chamber of commerce, MSMEs, Welfare Associations etc. around 200 – 500 persons participate. This has a multiplier effect. We also have support from MNRE, IREDA, SECI and some local progressive Banks in this massive awareness effort jointly with the state government.

Some Good Examples continued Similar Good Example is the state of Rajasthan With the active involvement and support of Rajasthan Govt., RREL and similar agencies, NSEFI and Rajasthan Solar Association have already organized Solar Rooftop Awareness programs in Jaipur and soon at Udaipur, Ajmer and other cities This Model of the State Govts and their agencies working hand in hand with solar associations and local bodies as also MNRE, SECI, IREDA etc will greatly help in spreading awareness and help in achieving 40 GW
