How we help… We now have three classrooms which allows us to offer smaller classes for lessons. A deeper understanding of the expectations of the SATs tests. Greater knowledge of the new curriculum and what the Dfe expect of children in Year 6.
Parents’ Evening We would like to invite parents to meet with their child’s teacher on 1st November or 2nd November. We can discuss your child’s start to Year 6 and how they have performed in the practice tests before half term. This will allow you to ask any questions you may have about Year 6.
How we help: Booster We will introduce a timetable of booster sessions which include extra numeracy and literacy lessons in the run up to SATs. Focus on specific skills in writing, grammar, reading and numeracy. Extra support dependent on the needs of the child. Intervention groups to support a child’s specific learning needs.
How we help: Additional Time – 25% for children who qualify for extra reading time – schools assess the child’s reading pace Readers for maths and SPAG tests. Different rooms – quiet to allow children to focus and concentrate. Scribes if needed. A “chilled out week”-and extra exercise. 3:05 Clubs
Easter Revision School Three days revision booster. Children are invited to attend not compulsory. Focus on specific areas of reading, maths or GPS.
How results are calculated…
Teachers will also assess the children and this is provided to parents alongside SATs results.
How best to help at home! Ensure that homework is done throughout the year – spellings are critical to success in the GPS test Ensure your child reads frequently at home. Ensure that work begins now so that they do not feel pressure next year. Ensure that your child gets enough sleep and comes to school ready to learn Try not to add pressure.
Any other questions? What if my child is ill? How do secondary schools use the test results? What if we are still worried?
Secondary School Just a reminder that the application process for secondary school places is now open. I have provided the children with a list of open evenings coming up over the next few weeks. https://www.peterborough.gov.uk/residents/schools-and-education/school-admissions/starting-secondary-school-in-year-7/
