National Coordination Mechanisms: National Salt Iodization Program (NSIP) Achievements Weaknesses Formulation, updating, and monitoring of the National Salt Iodization Strategic Plan (2011-2016) Weak involvement of regulatory agency (national and sub-national)– weaker monitoring and enforcement of the law Regular NSIP-TWG meetings to collectively discuss bottlenecks, possible solutions and proposed recommendations; also include reporting of regional salt monitors (RBATF) from a selected region Irregular participation and changing representatives in TWG meetings that affect continuity of actions for certain agreements

Innovative Strategies: National Salt Iodization Program (NSIP) Demand creation Technology Partnership with a major supermarket chain (SM Supermarket) Technology improvement – retrofit existing iodizing machine and replacement of compressor by dosing pumps coupled with capacity building among salt industry through intensive “hand-holding” “Saktong iodine sa asin!” (quality salt seal) campaign to promotion consumption of adequately-iodized salt Regional/Provincial/City/Municipal Bantay Asin Task Forces (regional salt monitors) Integration of IDD and iodized salt in grade school and secondary curriculum and awareness generation in schools Partnership with the Lady Municipal Mayors of the Philippines (LMMAP) to facilitate implementation of national initiatives to the LGU level
