Why is Assessment Important? Asking students to demonstrate their understanding of the subject matter is critical to the learning process; it is essential to evaluate whether the educational goals and standards of the lesson are being met.

ASSESSMENT for Data BIG IDEAS: Standards (and objectives) are meaningless until you define how to assess them. Because of this, assessments are the starting point for instruction, not the end. Standardized tests, such as the Idaho Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) is used to determine whether students have achieved the standards for their grade level and subject area.
