Psalm 119 Psalm 119 is the longest psalm. It has 176 verses and it is divided into 22 stanzas. Each stanza begins with the letters of the Hebrew alphabet consecutively.

Psalm 119 In the psalm the psalmist sings of the Law of God. He describes every aspect of the Law and its place in the hearts of Israel.

Psalm 119 Luke 1:6 – Zacharias and Elizabeth were blameless before God. They walked according to the ordinances of God. The psalm says that those who are undefiled are blessed before God. This undefiled means to be perfect, complete, without spot, without blemish. It is the idea of being blameless. This is the condition that a Christian should strive for daily.

Psalm 119 Vs. 2 – The psalmist continues and says that those who are blessed are those who keep his testimonies and seek God with their whole heart. Luke 1:6 – Zacharias and Elizabeth were blameless before God. They walked according to the ordinances of God. Matt. 22:37 - “’You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’” Matt. 6:33 – seek God first

Psalm 119 Vs. 3 – Next the psalmist tells us that they do no iniquity. We know that all have sinned, so what does this mean? 1 John 3:4-9 – the righteous practice righteousness and strive to not sin 1 John 5:18 – if we are of God we do not sin

Psalm 119 The meaning of this is that those who are of God do not actively or passively pursue sin but turn from it. 1 John 1:5-2:2 – We should not deceive ourselves into thinking we are incapable of sin. We should confess our sin. When we sin we should repent through Jesus.

Psalm 119 Vs. 4-5 – In following God diligence is necessary so our steps are ordered 2 Tim. 2:15 – be diligent Heb. 11:6 – God will reward those who diligently seek Him Psalm 37:23-24 – the Lord orders our steps and upholds us

Psalm 119 Vs. 6 – There is no shame in following God. 1 Peter 4:1-4 – people will think it strange that we do not do as they do 2 Tim. 1:8-12 – there is no shame in suffering for Jesus Rom. 1:16 – never be ashamed of the Gospel

Psalm 119 Vs. 7-8 – The blessed will praise God, learn from Him and keep His commands. Acts 8:26-39 – the man from Ethiopia praised God after he understood the prophesy of Isaiah and his obedience to the Gospel Heb. 3:5-6 – we rejoice in Christ firm to the end 2 Peter 3:9-13 – we know that God will not forsake us but has a placed prepared for us John 14:1-3 – our confidence is in the promise of Jesus
