Kairos Prison Ministry International Building the Complete Kairos Community LISTEN, LISTEN, LOVE, LOVE

Listen, Listen, Love, Love Kairos Prison Ministry International 2016 Annual Conference Building the Complete Kairos Community Listen, Listen, Love, Love Welcome to “Building the Complete Kairos Community”. I am so pleased to see the Kairos community here today for this family reunion. Our goal is to put a spotlight the importance of building complementary unity within the three Kairos programs. “Complementary” unity meaning to complete one another when becoming one. Wikipedia says “the complement of X is something that together with X makes a complete whole – something tat supplies what X lacks.” To quote a friend of mine…we are searching for the ways Kairos becomes more than the sum of its parts. Each one of you got a card with three cords on it, and a blank acrostic for “community”. Please feel free to take notes on and around the acrostic – and fill in the blanks with words you believe are needed build a complete Kairos community. Let’s begin by sharing the basics of Kairos Inside, Kairos Outside and Kairos Torch.

Kairos Outside LISTEN, LISTEN, LOVE, LOVE

Kairos Inside LISTEN, LISTEN, LOVE, LOVE

Kairos Torch LISTEN, LISTEN, LOVE, LOVE

Kairos Outside-Kairos Inside-Kairos Torch Listening and Loving Kairos Community Kairos Outside-Kairos Inside-Kairos Torch My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. James 1:19 My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ. Colossians 2:2 Acknowledge our mission is to transform those impacted by incarceration, and it is not solely by our effort – but through the encouragement to listen and to be united in love so the Kairos community my have the full riches of complete understanidng, in order that they may know the mystery of God…. Christ Jesus.

Unity in Three Programs of Kairos Prison Ministry Kairos Outside Listen, Listen, Love, Love Kairos Inside Kairos Torch 2.5-Day Weekend Outside Facility 3.5-Day Weekend Inside Institution Facility 3.5-Day Weekend Introduce Guests to Christ through sharing at Table Family discussions Introduce Participants 2 Times Per Year Quarterly Reunion Monthly Reunions are best Weekly Share, Witness, Action and Prayer Monthly Reunion Weekly Prayer and Share Grouping Semi-Annual 2-Day Retreat Weekly Mentor Meeting Kairos Outside S.W.A.P. = Share, Witness, Action, and Prayer. Not a card because women use the time in line to enter the prison to discuss their lives. They can’t be in possession of a prayer card when they enter a institution. Kairos Outside requires 24 viable Guest reservation forms 30 days prior to the weekend in order to ensure 12 Guests. Kairos Inside requires plus 2 volunteers over the # of Participants for one to one hosting. Recruiting is the Advisory Council’s responsibility. Kairos Torch # participants = number of Mentors on a team. No 4th Day requirement. The 3 programs are structured similarly, the differences are in the operation of the programs. They have different audiences and different details. Reasons why the time committed for a Weekend varies: Kairos Outside has 12-24 Guests Kairos Inside has 42 Participants, out counts, meals in the chow hall, a larger group to attain the effects group dynamics Kairos Torch has 12 or so Participants Kairos Outside is from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Kairos Torch has smaller facilities than Kairos Inside Note * Because of the larger numbers of Participants in Kairos Inside ,it takes longer to move everyone thru the process of the program within the time constraints.
