Lesson 7: Metamorphic Rocks
Heat and pressure can change a rock into a metamorphic rock Metamorphic rocks are formed when the properties of existing rocks are changed by the earth’s natural forces. Heat and pressure can change a rock into a metamorphic rock
The rock cannot melt during this process or it would become an igneous rock.
Metamorphic rocks can be formed from any other type of rock. Igneous Rocks Sedimentary Rocks Other Metamorphic Rocks

Metamorphic rocks may look similar to the original rock, but some of their properties will be changed through the metamorphic process.
There are two types of metamorphic rocks: Foliated Non-Foliated
Common Metamorphic Rocks: Gneiss (Formed from Granite)
Common Metamorphic Rocks: Slate (Formed from Shale)
Common Metamorphic Rocks: Marble (Formed from Limestone)
Common Metamorphic Rocks: Quartzite (Formed from Quartz)
Common Metamorphic Rocks: Schist (Formed from Mica or Muscovite)
