Presentation transcript:

Sister Debbie Holtzendorff Debbie@Holtzendorff.com I am a full-time Church Service Missionary on the Lean Learning Team of the Patron and Partner Services Division of FamilySearch. Originally from California, I have a BA degree from BYU. I've been an avid genealogist and a computer hobbyist since my college days. My first Church Service mission was from my computer in my bedroom in California for the FamilySearch Call Center. I have been with the Lean Learning Team here in Utah for 1 ½ years. My office is in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building on South Temple in Salt Lake City, Utah. I now conveniently live behind the Conference Center and walk to my office each day.

Lean Learning Team of the Patron & Partner Services Division of FamilySearch Mission Statement: The Lean Learning team is a group of genealogists and computer programmers. We study customer problems, research obstacles and suggest minimum viable solutions for FamilySearch. We build, iterate, and measure the impact of solutions that enable Church members to find deceased relatives and qualify them for temple ordinances. We then share our learnings with FamilySearch teams and partners in order to help them deliver scalable solutions through marketing, software, training, and customer service.

Extend your ancestral lines with “Missing Parents”

Try this one to clean up your Tree because most of us only have one set of parents.

Duplicates in the Tree have been causing great headaches.

Use “More than One Spouse” to find more duplicates.

How to Help Others find Temple Ordinances with WoodenVillage.org 29

View your patron's pedigree at FamilySearch. org View your patron's pedigree at FamilySearch.org. Record the names and PID numbers for the four grandparents of the patron: Name Clair Dale Holtzendorff PID KFYM-B83 Name Geraldine Bette Tyner PID K4FD-34J Name __________________________ PID___________________ Name __________________________ PID___________________ 30

Open a new browser tab and go to WoodenVillage.org 31

Select “Ordinances Needed for Your Relatives” 32

The Ordinances Needed for Your Relatives App will open. 33

1) Type the FamilySearch PID number for one of the grandparents using capital letters and the hyphen. 2) Use the default setting for the Number of Ancestor Generation to Search of 4. 3) Use the default setting for the Number of Descendant Generations to Search of 3. 4) Click the “Submit” button. 34

On the pop-up FamilySearch Sign In page, enter your FamilySearch username and password. 35

Scroll down in the Wooden Village window Scroll down in the Wooden Village window. A brief summary as well as a brown box listing the Ancestors of the grandparent will quickly appear. However, it may take several more minutes for the app to compile a complete list of relatives needing ordinances. 36

When the app finishes the report will be a blue table of relatives needing ordinances. And . . . 37

A new tab will open also with the list. 38

Review the Ancestors: Click on a name to see the ancestor in the Family Tree. 39

Does the information look correct or reasonable? Select the best ancestor to report to your patron. Run the “Ordinances Needed” app at WoodenVillage.org again for additional grandparents if needed. 40
