HYDROELECTRIC POWER Brandon Terry
WHAT IS HYDROELECTRIC POWER?
“Flowing water creating energy that can be captured and turned into electricity. This is called hydroelectric power or hydropower.” -Renewable Energy world Quote source: http://www.renewableenergyworld.com/hydropower/tech.html Image Source: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/ab/ThreeGorgesDam-China2009.jpg THREE GORGES DAM – Sandouping, Yiling China
PROCESS ENERGY TRANSFER RESERVOIR CONTROL GATE / DAM TURBINE TRANSFORMER POWER GRID -The most common hydro plant uses a dam on a river to store water in a body of water called a resivoir. -Not all hydroelectric plants are large, some can be small enough to run water through a turbine for homeowners/ farmers. “Another type of hydroelectric power plant - called a pumped storage plant - can even store power. The power is sent from a power grid into the electric generators. The generators then spin the turbines backward, which causes the turbines to pump water from a river or lower reservoir to an upper reservoir, where the power is stored. To use the power, the water is released from the upper reservoir back down into the river or lower reservoir. This spins the turbines forward, activating the generators to produce electricity.” Source: http://www.renewableenergyworld.com/hydropower/tech.html Image Source: https://corporate.vattenfall.com/globalassets/corporat HOUSEHOLDS PROCESS
