Policy for Grades & Absences Thank you for your assistance in making this a stellar year! Dear Parent, Remind your child to ask questions. It is my pleasure to meet you and my passion to teach and inspire your child this year. Seventh grade is an exciting and challenging time for students. Throughout the year, we will develop learning habits, and practice strategies to embrace the power of language through reading and writing and thinking exercises. Please keep in mind that your child is part of the large beating heart in my classroom, and if we work together, as a team, all the children will prosper. If I contact you, I am calling to understand the bigger picture before I share the behavior witnessed in the classroom. I ask you to do the same. Please inquire into the situation before pointing fingers at who or what might be the cause. Hormones are racing at this age, and we need to make certain that these young adults are supported by cooperative adults. Mrs. Lawrence Weekly and daily work will be updated weekly (bell ringers, participation, and quizzes). Please check grades regularly and feel free to ask me any questions that you might have about a particular grade. If you are absent, you are responsible for completing your make-up work (one day for make-up for each day absent). All make-up work will be placed in your class’s absent folder, and your name will be written on any work you missed. It is your responsibility to ask a classmate, or me for help, and/or meet to make-up any tests, quizzes or classwork. *In fact, you can add your name to an after-school time slot in my appointment book to ensure you receive the attention you need. Important Student Handbook Policy __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A hall pass will not be administered during the first and last 10 mins of each period. _______________________________ Main Novel Study Regular Language Arts: Wonder Gifted Language Arts: The Book Thief __________________________________ _______________________________ Electronic Devices Study Time Electronic devices should be kept in students’ backpacks, or the assigned classroom pocket. Devices should not be out during class, unless otherwise instructed by the teacher or with permission. First offense: Student will turn the phone into the teacher until the end of class. Most work will be able to be completed in class if students use their time wisely. The exception to this would be projects. If students do not complete work during class, in the time allotted, it will be assigned as homework so students can adhere to the determined deadlines. There will be occasional iReady and Quizlet assignments to complete. Students may schedule time at the school lab if a home computer is unavailable. Second offense: Student will turn the phone into the teacher until the end of day. Third offense: Phone will be turned into office and parents will have to pick up the device from the office.
