ABCDE’s of Skin Cancer Asymmetry Border Color Diameter Evolution Normal moles or freckles are completely symmetrical (draw a line down the middle and the two halves will be the same). If skin cancer is present, the spot will not look the same on both sides. Border A mole or spot with blurry and/or jagged edges. Color A mole that has more than one color or changes color (lighter or darker) Diameter If a spot is larger than a pencil eraser. Evolution There is a change in the size, shape, symptoms (such as itching or tenderness), surface (especially bleeding), or color of a mole.
