WITH MCS+ AND TRIMA SEPARATORS. EVALUATION OF PLATELETS CONCENTRATES AND RED BLOOD CELLS CONCENTRATES PRODUCTION WITH MCS+ AND TRIMA SEPARATORS. Rapaille A, Gillet P, Sondag-Thull D. Blood Transfusion Centre, Belgian Red Cross, Liège, Belgium. BACKGROUND. Multi-component apheresis technology has become a routine method in order to obtain several highly standardised products, like leukoreduced platelets concentrates (PC), plasma and leukoreduced red blood cells concentrates (RBCC). We evaluated different collection protocols to obtain PC, RBCC and plasma. METHODS. Samplings were taken day of collection. Cells numeration, haemoglobin, hematocrit were performed on Cell-dyn 3000 (Abbott). Residual White Blood Cells (WBC) were counted with a microscope in Nageotte chambers after dilution in 1 to 5 in Turk’s solution for PC and in 1 to 10 in Plaxan solution for RBCC. FINDING. Multi-component collection by apheresis technique is a feasible method to obtain RBCCs and PCs in high production consistency and quality in respect of donor safety (Poster 535: Are MCS+ and Trima safe and convenient for donors?). All PCs (except two collected with the LDP protocol, one with MCS and the other with Trima separator, for residual WBC) and all RBCCs meet also the European guideline recommendations. .
