Song of Solomon Last class you received the timeline, reading notes format, and the group questions. Reading notes – keep reading notes. Make three column notes. Separate by chapter. Write down page numbers. You will be using these notes with your groups, with the class, and with your essay. Your reactions to what you’re reading – provide page numbers. The author’s use of literary devices (imagery, figurative language, allusions)- provide page numbers. Powerful and/or memorable words/ phrases/ descriptions – provide page numbers. Page 54-55 Macon Dead’s snake story – he does believe people can change, but sometimes a snake can shed its skin. Pilate is the snake. This must be a reference to the deception in Genesis and the deception of that serpent too. Page 5 – imagery – contrasting blue silk wings with the red velvet rose petals – one in the air – the other on the ground. Neither are functional, but more decorative Page 49 – repetition of “Sugarman” song – return to home.

Group work. I’m going to divide you into groups. These are the groups you will be presenting with on Oct. 14th. As you read, keep a separate set of notes for the group project. You will be recording events, descriptions, conflicts, conversations… which help address how the novel explores your group’s questions. When each chapter is due, you will get together in your groups for a limited amount of time to discuss and to add information to your group’s findings. I will set up a document in google drive and then share it with the members of each group where you can add information as you go. Go to your group poster and write your names on the poster.
