Financial Aid Program Review Presentation Maritza LaVu- Financial Aid Supervisor April 13, 2011

Program Description Financial Aid is here to provide assistance to students in their quest to achieve a higher education. The Financial Aid Office serves over 38,000 students annually. Financial Aid Office administers 17 different programs of funding. Brief Description of your program. Who are you? One Slide, 2 minutes

Program -- Strengths Financial Aid educates the campus population of various financial resources for students to achieve their educational goals. Disbursed over $42 million in aid to students annually. Maintain program integrity with Federal and State agencies through reporting and auditing requirements.

Program -- Challenges The ratio of staff to student is not adequate. Financial Aid requires more staffing to provide better customer services and education to our students. Currently we only have temporary space for an essential FA computer lab. New legislation – based on student success and unit completion will increase student appeals.

Program -- Challenges The Student Loan cohort default rate is dangerously high- institution at risk of loosing title IV eligibility. As our program continues to grow so does our need for space.

Planning Implications Continued training and education of FA staff to provide financial aid awareness to campus community. Attain adequate permanent staffing levels to address the continuous growth, increasing cohort default rate, and better customer service. Secure a permanent location for the FA computer lab in the Student Center.
