What’s Happening This Week Mrs. Brown and Ms. Suit’s Newsletter August 22-16, 2016 What’s Happening This Week We are starting class DOJO this week to document student behavior. If you have not signed up yet, please do so ASAP and check in daily to see how your child did in class that day. Math We will start Chapter 2 this week. We will focus on estimating and rounding numbers in the tens and hundreds place. We won’t test this week in math. Science This week, we will learn about animal adaptions. Our new vocabulary words are mimicry, adaptation, structures and camouflage. Our test will be Friday. Language Arts We will learn strategies to use when we lose our way while reading text. We will continue studying & analyzing the summer reading book, Because of Winn-Dixie. We will continue using our Reader’s Notebooks by discussing Story Vocabulary and Plot. We will decorate & set up our writing spiral notebook, as well as, begin learning our “free writing rules.” Finally, we will practice writing the different types of sentences. We will complete the Achieve 3000 PreLexile Test on the computer, which will determine our reading level. Social Studies We complete Chapter 1 Lesson 1. On Thursday, we will begin Chap. 1 Lesson 2, “MS’s Regions and Resources.” We will have a quiz on Lesson 2 next week. The students should be studying their notecards and any notes we have taken on Lessons 1 & 2. Important Dates Monday, September 5- Labor Day Holiday- no school Wednesday, September 7- Progress Reports Friday, September 9- School Pictures Northshore Night at football game Friday, September 16- PTO food sale Monday, September 26- Book Fair Spelling – Unit 3 We will be identifying words with digraphs. The students copied notes in binder on Tuesday. See spelling words under “Spelling Words” tab on my website. Spelling test Friday!! Just a few Reminders…. Don’t forget to send a healthy snack and water bottle with your child. If your child is not participating in the fund raiser, please send back the Coupon Book ASAP. Thank you!
