The Cold War

Review After WWII Europe in ruin, Asian colonies get independence (India) Nuremburg Trials, tried Nazis for the crimes of The Holocaust Creations of Israel as a homeland for Jewish People. United Nations organized with 193 countries to keep world peace.

The Red Scare Began in the 1940s shortly after the end of WWII Communist and perceived Soviet sympathizers became known as “Reds” The fear that communist were living in the U.S. as spies, to overthrow the government.

The Red Scare People began being investigated to prove their loyalty to the U.S. government. Joseph McCarthy, a U.S. Senator led these investigations. People were accused of being communist with little or no proof that they were.

The Nuclear Arms Race Refers to build up of nuclear weapons during the cold war by the U.S. and Soviet Union. Began when the Soviet Union built their on H-Bomb in 1953. Eventually both sides built Inter-continental Ballistic Misses (ICBMs) , could launch nuclear warheads around the world. Video

Space Race Not only were the Soviet Union and U.S. competing with Nuclear Weapons. They were competing with technology in general. The battle to prove who had the best technology is known as the Space Race. Video
