WORKSHOP PURPOSE AND OUTCOMES To explore the England DNA within your coaching context and to raise further awareness and deepen your understanding of the DNA Coaching Fundamentals OUTCOMES Reflect on your understanding of the DNA Explain the ‘How we Coach’ element of the England DNA Demonstrate the DNA Coaching Fundamentals in a practical session Discuss how you can play your part with the DNA

TASK: IN GROUPS ‘RECALL, DISCUSS & SHARE’ EVERYTHING YOU KNOW ABOUT THE ‘ENGLAND DNA’?

5 MINUTE TIMER IN GROUPS ‘RECALL, DISCUSS & SHARE’ EVERYTHING YOU KNOW ABOUT THE ‘ENGLAND DNA’? End This bar timer, will start when anywhere on the slide is clicked. The bar will move from left to right and the word ‘End’ will appear at the end, accompanied by a ‘Deep Gong’ sound. It is possible to change the duration of this timer to any time, by entering the animation settings, and changing the timing for ‘rectangle 3’. Note the time has to be entered as a number of seconds – so if you want 2mins & 30secs – this is entered as 150 (60X2 + 30 = 150).

PURPOSE Define The England Identity for the Future Share what we do and why we do it Increase contacts Share the journey - Part of something special Define clear ‘Development Plans’ for players Consistency across teams Golden Thread

ENGLAND DNA CORE ELEMENTS Outline the core elements Who – Recognition of our culture and the past, but looking to create a modern England with the chance of new history with the challenge for players to leave the shirt in a better place than they found it. Defining clear culture for players to be an integral part of. How we play – Playing philosophy of how we want England teams to play In, Out and Transition (EXAMPLE ON NEXT SLIDES) The future England player – Selecting players carefully that fit within the playing style and DNA (4 corner approach example) (EXAMPLE ON SLIDE) How we coach – Clear game and Training/coaching strategy based on a Plan – Do – Review model of practice (Time factors with International players – Making strong connections) We also want to reinforce some clear DNA coaching fundamentals for our coaches to work consistently with players on (EXAMPLE ON SLIDE) How we support – Consistent support services for all teams in all areas (making the inches count – UEFA Finals U17 example on player education)

ENGLAND DNA COACHING FUNDAMENTALS

TASK – IN GROUPS REVIEW MY DELIVERY AGAINST THE ENGLAND DNA COACHING FUNDAMENTALS HIGHLIGHTED IN RED

PRACTICAL

Transition of Possession Practice 2 Reds v 3 Blues 3 Reds v 3 Blues 3 Reds v 2 Blues 3? 3? 1 2 9 v 9 inc GKs playing in thirds (can be any number) Only condition to start the game is that all players are locked into each third that they occupy Midfield players can decide which way they want to attack (Transition/focus/recycle the ball) 1 midfielder can join in for extra attacker and 1 retreating midfielder Ball must be recycled back into midfield after an attack Incentivise scoring with underloads in either end. Offside?????? Challenges: 1. Try to receive in midfield to play into end zone quickly 2. Try to turn with the ball to play into opposite end zone 3. Try to focus, concentrate and readjust to the changeover of the ball 4. Try combinational play to create scoring opportunities

5V5 – Constraints Organisation Two teams of 5 Pitch separated in to 2 halves Constraints Safe in your own half, the defending team must retreat Can only score in attacking half Ball must be dribble over the half-way line Additional Once the ball crosses the line you cannot go back. On losing possession you are locked in and must defend from the half you are in.

5V5 – Constraints Organisation Two teams of 5 Pitch separated in to thirds (offside line) Constraints Defending team must defend the middle and final third. They can enter the first third of the pitch once the ball has been passed. Attacking team can only score in the final third. The ball must be passed across the line to enter. Players can only enter after the ball has been passed. Additional Ask a player on each team to wear a different colour bid to everyone else (e.g. the yellow playing for blue and orange playing for red. They control the offside line up to half-way Encourage teammates to stay in line with them or beyond.

5V5 – Constraints Organisation Two teams of 5 Pitch separated in to thirds (offside lines) Constraints All players except keepers to play in the middle zone Attacking team can only score in the final third, offside applies. Defending thirds are safe zones when in possession to encourage goal keepers to become involved in the attack. If needed players can drop into safe zone to receive the ball. Constraints Narrow the pitch to limit space (particularly in the middle zone)
