Years later, a non-LDS attorney told a friend, “I’ve just come from the most inspiring Catholic funeral mass I have ever attended.” Turns out the funeral was for Judge Sirica, whose family had requested that Elder Christofferson speak at the funeral. In his funeral sermon, Elder Christofferson had simply taught the plan of salvation.

Todd Christofferson participated in the Hill Cumorah Pageant Todd Christofferson participated in the Hill Cumorah Pageant. “One night after a performance, I went to the Sacred Grove alone. It was a beautiful summer evening…. I prayed very diligently for an hour, maybe more—and nothing happened.” After some time, he gave up and left. Disappointment consumed him. Why hadn’t Heavenly Father answered his prayer? About a month after the pageant, as he was reading the Book of Mormon at home in his bedroom, he received his answer. “Without my asking for it, the witness came. I received a very powerful spiritual confirmation—the kind that leaves no doubt—about the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith.”
“Looking back on that experience, I realize that we can’t dictate to God when, where, or how He will speak to us. I’m glad that Heavenly Father didn’t respond to me that night in Palmyra. I might have thought that you have to be in a special place to get an answer to prayer or to gain a testimony. If Heavenly Father found me in Somerset, New Jersey, He can answer the prayers of anybody, anywhere in the world. He knows us intimately and can answer us whatever our place or circumstances.”
While at BYU, Elder Christofferson saw a pretty young woman on campus who caught his attention. Although he didn’t meet her then, he did remember her face and looked her up in the campus yearbook . Eventually, Todd arranged through a mutual friend to take Kathy Jacob on a date. In 1968 they were married in the Salt Lake Temple.
