Problems associated with Rapid population growth LO: To explain why population is growing so rapidly in some parts of the world and what problems this can lead to.

Describe which countries in the world have the highest rates of growth, give some examples Study table 9.5, what does this tell you about the growth rate of Burkina Faso? Use data in your answer What is causing such high rates of natural increase in Burkina Faso?

Why are levels of natural increase so high in some countries? High birth rate and falling death rate due to improvement in basic healthcare e.g. vaccinations Birthrates remain high due to lack of family planning; - poor levels of education, especially women - cultural tradition for large families still common - children seen as financial asset to help with family business and look after parents in old age - can’t afford or unaware of birth control (contraception)

Explain how population growth leads to problems for some countries Problems caused by rapid population growth
