From Summary to Analysis Monday May 4th

Bell Ringer Choose ONE of the following, and write down at LEAST 3 similarities, and 3 differences. Then, explain WHY you think the Writer/Director chose to make these differences/similarities. Any Batman movie and The Batman Animated Series Any of the Spiderman movies with Toby Macguire, and the more recent Spiderman films with Andrew Garfield. Any of the Hunger Games books, and it’s corresponding movie. The Superman movies, “Superman Returns” (2006), and “The Man of Steel” (2013).

What is a summary? A summary is a brief statement or account of the main points of a text. We summarize to reduce information to just essential facts and events in order to understand and learn new information.

What is an analysis? An analysis is a study of the essential elements or parts of text and explaining how those elements are related. We analyze to explain how an author uses ideas in a text to create purpose and meaning.

Why do we care? When you write your essay for the VLT and the FSA, you must analyze the text set. You must not summarize each text. You will be writing both a summary and an analysis for this lesson.
