Catherine Barner, Vice President Park Projects + Stewardship Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, San Francisco, CA These park projects were designed and built under the direction of Cathie Barner over the past twelve years. As Vice President of the Parks Conservancy, Cathie has assembled a talented planning and design staff, hired inspired design firms to work collaboratively with the community and produced beautiful new buildings and restored park lands throughout the Golden Gate National Parks. She has developed a unique and successful way to engage the community in planning and design. The results are an involved an supportive group of long term park stewards . A trained architect, she currently manages a 60-person interdisciplinary team responsible for all phases of planning, design and implementation of buildings, landscape and trail improvements in the National Parks. She also manages a portfolio of park stewardship programs, focused on native plant nurseries, historic garden renewal, community-based habitat restoration and conservation science. An effective collaborator, she maintains a network of colleagues ranging from the National Park Service, Presidio Trust and Congressional staff to civic leaders, planners, architects, artists and local community groups. Community engagement strategies are central to the success of developing quality park facilities. Cathie Barner is an accomplished nonprofit executive with more than three decades of experience managing large-scale public projects across the United States. She has been instrumental in developing public/private partnerships to transform national park landscapes, rehabilitate and reuse historic sites, build LEED-certified park facilities and rejuvenate city landmarks.
