70,000 OF THE MOST FRAIL ABANDONED BY THE SYSTEM - STUDY ELDERLY CARE: 70,000 OF THE MOST FRAIL ABANDONED BY THE SYSTEM - STUDY Charity study warning of ‘alarming gaps’ in elderly care system ahead of overhaul with two million struggling with tasks such as cooking, dressing or bathing More than 70,000 of the most vulnerable elderly people have been effectively abandoned by the care system, with no help or support despite having serious life-limiting disabilities, a new study claims. Analysis by the charity Independent Age concludes that at least two million older people in England have some difficulty performing essential day-to-day task such as washing or dressing. It estimates that 560,000 face a seriously daily struggle with their own basic personal care, unable to perform at least essential tasks.

JUST TO ADD BALANCE..... Does sharing more information heighten our own anxieties? Will we be more or less targeted on those at risk with greater volumes of information? Have we got the capacity to process more information and does this risk diverting us away from the really high risk cases? What is happening in Shetland today that others know about but we do not – when ‘we’ are the ones that can take the necessary action?

Interference or Intervention? In physics, interference is something that happens when two or more waves are in the same space. Sometimes the peak of one wave joins with the peak of another wave, so the resulting peak is twice as high. Sometimes the peak of one wave falls into the trough of another wave, and the surface is then flat. When waves add their effects, it is called positive interference, or constructive interference. When one wave subtracts from the effects of the other, it is called negative interference, or destructive interference. If two people pushed on a car in the same direction, they would move the car better than either one alone. That would be positive interference.
