When Was the Civil War Fought? 1861-1865

How did northern and southern views tariffs differ? Northerners favored tariffs because they benefited from them, but southerners felt they were a economic burden.

How did northern and Southern views of slavery differ? Most northerners were not accustom to the practice of slavery, and tended to supported abolition, while southerners viewed slaves as a source of labor and necessary to their economy.

What impact did the Emancipation Proclamation have on the US? It did not end slavery in America, it only freed slaves in the confederacy and led to many African American men to join the Us Army.

Where were the first shots of the civil war fired? Ft. Sumter, South Carolina.

Why is the battle of Gettysburg considered a turning point in the civil war? Because the confederacy was defeated in this bloody battle and never tried to invade the north again.

What impact did Lincoln’s death have on the nation? The loss of his leadership made it difficult for the nation to overcome the challenges .

Did Abraham Lincoln think secession was legal? No, he thought It set a dangerous precedent, he viewed secession as illegal.

What does this image reveal about the north’s strategy of defeating the south? The North enacted a barricade of the southern coastline, the strategy was known as the Anaconda plan. The goal was to prevent the two major ports of the South, New Orleans and Charleston from receiving supplies.

What were some advantages the north and the south had during the civil war? The North was more industrialized, had a larger population, and better transportation. The South’s advantage was their terrain, they had the home field advantage and only had to fight a “Defensive War.”

Summarize the Dred Scott Decision? Slave were not freed even if they lived or traveled to free state or territory Slaves were not protected by the constitution Slaves were property not citizens The Missouri compromise was found to be unconstitutional
